Coaching Requirements
USA Hockey Registration
- Beginning April 1, 2023 you must register through USA Hockey for a current year membership number. This is required to be able to register for STSAHA.
- Please note: The fees for USA Hockey coaching registration now ranges based on birth year and positions.
- USA Hockey Membership Registration
Organization Registration
- Beginning April 1, 2023 - after your register for your new USA Hockey membership number you must register as a coach on the Southtowns Stars website. There is no cost for this, but ALL COACHES must register AND be able to provide their current year USA Hockey membership number.
Background Screening
- Beginning April 1, 2023 you must be sure you are properly screened through the USA Hockey approved NCSI. Your screening is good for 2 hockey seasons. The cost is $30 for two years. This should be complete by July 1 of the current season.
- Please keep your final report first page when it is sent to you. You may be asked to provide documentation to the registrar at a later date.

Age Specific Course Modules
- Coaches are required to complete their age-specific online course modules to be rostered by USA Hockey. If you haven't completed your module you may do beginning April 1. The cost is $10 per module and the link can be found below. These should be completed by July 1 of the current season.

Safesport Training
- Effective 2019-2020 season: coaches and managers are required to complete SafeSport training annually per USA Hockey regulations. This is a change from previous years.
- There is not cost for this and it should be completed before July 1 to facilitate the ease of rostering.
- Please note: save all certificates from your training as these may be required to show proof of completion to our league registrar.

** Please Note ** Only rostered coaches are allowed on the bench. (Volunteer parents, no matter how well intended, cannot be on the bench or step on the ice unless they are officially level certified and rostered...no exceptions).
Coaching Education Program (CEP)
- Southtowns Stars requires ALL coaches to have proper USA Hockey Certification and attend Coaching clinics.
- It is the coaches responsibility to register for the appropriate level Certification Clinic in our area and attend only ONE (1) clinic per clinic season.
- All clinics will be posted on USA HOCKEY website by August 15th. Coaches have until December 31st to attend a clinic.
- In addition, other volunteers in the USA Hockey programs that have regular, routine or frequent access to or supervision over youth participants (such as team managers, locker room monitors, chaperones, etc.) are required to complete the SafeSport Training prior to such access.
